Career Profile: Town Planning & Development
Name: Penny Ager
Job Title: Town Planning & Development
I work in the Planning and Development Team.
Planners are involved in tackling issues at the forefront of the political agenda including the housing shortage, infrastructure demands and climate change.
Private sector planners need to be commercially minded. The main objective is to maximise the potential of a client’s assets by securing favourable planning permissions, yet at the same time balancing social, economic and environmental concerns. In order to achieve this, planners work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams including architects, engineers, developers and surveyors. There is also a requirement to engage with local communities. My work is focused in Central London, where I have been involved in the delivery of a number of complex redevelopment proposals, including major mixed use commercial and residential developments. I also manage a number of central London estates with portfolios containing a number of prestigious listed buildings located in designated conservation area, which require careful and sensitive refurbishment.
